Dog photography Granada, this time we are in Castellejar photographing three dogs for a very important birthday gift. Pet photography throws up its challenges from time to time, photographing single canine portraits is great, pairs are much more difficult but three? Luckily none of these fabulous animals were phased by the studio lighting, it also helped that we were on location at the owners house which always makes the dogs more comfortable to start off with. Space was limited so it was quite a cosy set but the backdrop and black settee were perfect for the job. My first rule is to appreciate that I’m on their turf so getting to know the animals is a priority, not making a fuss but just a simple meet and greet, I also get the camera out straight away so that the dogs get used to me carrying an odd object from the offset – a quick coffee with the owner and when the excitement dies down its time to shoot – this time the treats of choice were sausages and dentastix, the latter being a product I remember well from my days in the pet trade many years ago!
The shoot involved a simple two light studio set up with standard soft boxes, instructions from the owner were clear and with a handful of these images heading off to print it was time to nail some photographs, all in all we ended up with around two dozen keepers from a two hour shoot whittled down to the final choices available in a private online gallery. So three dogs, three very different personalities and plenty of exposures as well as a large amount of interest in the camera and the person behind it! I simply love this environment and while there is an element of ‘luck’ creating portraits of canines (especially duo’s and trio’s) achieving a cracking result in one frame makes the dozens that don’t work all worth it. Ultimately, if the owner is happy then I’m happy!
If you would like some future memories captured either in studio, on location or in your own home then drop us a line, we travel throughout the Altiplano area and can offer pet photograph sessions farther afield if required. You can also catch up with us on Facebook, Youtube, G+ and Instagram.
